BV Foot Clinic: Stepping Into Flip-Flops Can Be Walking Into Trouble

Stepping Into Flip-Flops Can Be Walking Into Trouble

As foot care professionals, we let people know when there’s trouble afoot; and if you wear flip-flops, you could be walking right into it! Indeed, as you’re a mere, uh, step away from being barefoot, you’re likely to sustain cuts, splinters, or puncture wounds on your feet. Moreover, since those virtually uncovered feet often pick up dirt that contains bacteria and/or fungus, you’re even more susceptible to skin irritations, infections, athlete’s foot, plantar warts, and much worse.

Of course, we know that all of the warnings in the world won’t keep flip-flop fans from their favorite footwear. So, if you routinely step into a pair each morning, at least try to watch what you step into for the rest of the day!

BV Foot Clinic: Flip-Flops Fail to Afford Foot-Friendly Features

Flip-Flops Fail to Afford Foot-Friendly Features

During the summer, you see people wearing flip-flops every day; and, nearly every day, we see people who have foot injuries that resulted from wearing flip-flops. Indeed, the ubiquitous footwear doesn’t have many foot-friendly features. For example, with no arch support, flip-flops can cause feet to roll inward, triggering discomfort in the heels, arches, and toes. Having no straps or ankle support, and slight foot protection, they also make wearers susceptible to sprains and bruises, as well as cuts and injuries from splinters, rocks, nails, and other sharp objects.

Remember, foot problems can quickly and effectively ruin your summer plans; so if you incur any, let us quickly and effectively treat them!
